ADOMUKASVANASANA AND SAM

I recently interviewed a fairly renowned Yoga expert and asked her to critique the above student's adomukasvanasana position. Otherwise known as 'down dog.' The following comments are from that interview:

- This is a photo of a real adept. I know students who have struggled for many months, and sometimes years, to reach the level demonstrated by the student in the photo.

- Notice how perfect the gaze is.

- The back is perfectly straight. "He has obviously not been messed up by life yet." (Apparently as we age, we slump. Sam ain't slumped yet)

- My only suggestion would be that he work to bring his heels down flat on the ground, and that he bring his legs slightly closer together (hip distance apart).

- Most impressive, though, is that his head is resting on the floor. Master Inyegar is the only person I've ever seen accomplish this feat.

That's our boy....

ONE YEAR LATER

The face has lost some of its baby fat.

But the eyes. The eyes remain the same.

I STAND CORRECTED

In the interests of maintaining the appropriate level of truthfulness in Youngsamwise, the following corrections are humbly offered:

Sam Perspective is not traveling to Croatia. You will not be able to get tickets for that show because there is no show. Sam's Mom is going to Croatia to teach Yoga. Not produce the play. Too bad for you. If you want to see the show, you are out of luck. It ended with a sold out performance last night. If you want to take a Yoga class, however, then by all means hop on the plane in June...

The name of the team is the Wolverhampton Wanderers. Not the Wolverines. Not the Wolverhampton Doritos either.

On another note: see that picture below? Central Park Carousel? We got that last July. Some of you may remember the Central Park visit of 7/27 (you know, the squirrels, the-meaning-of-life, Toys-r-us, and all the rest?). The shirt was bought on that day. Look how the boy has grown into the shirt.

WHY IS THIS BOY LAUGHING

It had been a quiet evening. Mom and Dad were performing at the Interart Annex in their new work: Sam Perspective. It's a great piece of theatre, one of their best. I'm sorry all of you can't see it. Those of you in Zagreb, Croatia, however, can maybe see it in July when it travels there. Reserve your tickets now.

So the eponymous Sam was relaxing with his Grandparents.

And then something happened. Sam began to laugh. And laugh.
I feared he would burst a blood vessel in his head.

Whatever was doing it seemed to be coming from above him.

But then again, maybe not.

Here's a clue. Look what the boy is holding in his hand. He seems to be involved in some kind of game involving scarves.

We should have known.

There's something about the combination of an infant-toddler specialist, someone who does this for a living, and a simply crazy grandma, that leads inevitably to hilarity. This particular game seemed to consist primarily of waving a scarf over her head, followed by a rapid descent to the floor.

And this was too much, even for Grandma. Sam's laugh was so infectious that she eventually completely lost her ability to continue the game. She was laughing too hard.

Just a quiet night at the grandparents.
